It is time to snap out of it and get to work. Period. With early voting we have 2 months to the tell as many voters as possible about what the Democrats have done and what the Republicans will not do for them. We need to frame this choice for voters. We need a collective message and collective action. Many voters simply have not been paying attention. We need to make it clear how the Republicans have stood in the way of economic recovery.
At Netroots Nation 2010, Nancy Pelosi pointed out, "101 days from tomorrow we get the results and on that day we want no regrets. We all have to say we took the responsibility." (links below to more video from Netroots)
I went to an Organizing for America (OFA) meeting in Ohio yesterday. We are working this fall for the re-election of Governor Ted Strickland and fighting to elect a Democrat to George Voinovich's Senate seat. Early voting starts Sept 28th in Ohio.
Will you join me in canvassing or phone banking for Democratic candidates in your state, starting next weekend until election day ?
Here is what voters need to know:
- This Democratic president and congress have made historical progress. Stimulus bill, Lilly Ledbetter, Matthew Shepard Hate Crimes Act, Tobacco regulation, Credit Card Reform, Health Care Reform, the first latina Supreme Court Justice, and just this week Financial Reform, extension of unemployment benefits, and Improper Payments Elimination and Recovery Act. Watch Video of President Recapping Week
- Republicans have voted against every measure to stimulate the economy, create jobs and provide a safety net. They voted against tax cuts for working families, tax cuts for small business, health care reform, deficit commission, pay go. They would rather bring down the economy in order to beat President Obama than vote for economic policies that will save this countries economies.
- Republicans are hypocrites. They created the deficit but blame the President Obama. They are fighting for the deficit creating tax cuts for the rich, but fighting against extendingunemployment benefits for working families. They wave the flag but would rather see the President of the United States fail than succeed. They claim to be the party of god and church but would rather leave the most vulnerable, the children, the poor and the elderly to their own devises.
Here are links to speeches from Netroots Nation 2010. All made the similiar point: We have made progress. If we do not preserve this democratic majority we will no longer be able to move forward, we will be taken backwards. Only with a Democratic majority will we be able to move forward on things like DADT repeal, energy reform, immigration reform and economic recovery policies for working families.
